Bombshell overdrive 100 , tabacco suede, head

Bombshell overdrive 100 , tabacco suede, head

I clearly remember the day I got an email asking me to “recover an amp in suede”. I thought it was a strange request, but I said I would do it. Two days later I walked into a basement and discovered what a “Dumble” was. My new friend had two of them; a modded Fender Dual showman, and Overdrive Special #84. I had only seen a few things online about Dumble and didn’t know much about him or his amps. In only a few minutes of hearing the outrageously beautiful tones of #84, I was hooked.3495

I had never heard an amp truly “sing” before, I had never heard the honky midrange and smooth overdrive that Dumble amps were known for. There began my quest to have that tone; the touch sensitivity, the articulate and distinct note separation, the smooth chirpy overdrive, the controlled feedback; all the qualities I heard so abundantly. It sparked a new passion in my guitar playing that I had never known before.

As I explored deeper into the Dumble sound, my experience with the amps grew rapidly. I started doing some reverse engineering, some designing, adding reverbs, effects loops, boosts, and spent countless hours sound testing and tuning. But most recently I wanted to strip it back down to the roots, back to the raw, unattenuated, uncompressed Dumble that sparked the fire. So new for 2018…we have our version of the Dumble Overdrive Special, the Amplified Nation Bombshell Overdrive.

The Bombshell Overdrive is a standard Overdrive Special – a three preamp tube, two-channel amp, equipped with preamp boost on both channels. Its cascaded gain-stage design allows flexibility with low or high volume levels and many different Overdrive structures. These amps are remarkably easy to dial in and have all of the Dumble attributes that I grew to love. They are harmonically complex and have the most beautiful cleans with smooth high-gain overdrive just a click of the footswitch away. I am building them in both 50w and 100w in a custom powdercoated aluminum chassis, with choice of tolex and suede cabinetry.

I am voicing these amps stock in the 80’s preamp but can do any of the other Dumble voicings at your request, including an EL34 power amp, or a low wattage 22w 6V6.
