Pro Tested – On the Road & in the Studio
We’ve heard a lot of people say that vintage Bloom is not possible with new pickups or new guitars, this set of amazing pickups has proved the nay-sayers wrong. Don’t take our word for it, just listen to what one of our Professional Beta-Testers has to say….
Ford Thurston, a Nashville based guitarist is no stranger to the road, the studio or vintage P.A.F. tone. Ford has owned many vintage Gibson Guitars from the 1950’s including a Les Paul and a 1959 ES-335. He’s also owned several others Gibson’s from the 60’s. In addition, he has performed with Duane Allman’s 1957 Gold Top on more than one occasion while passing though Macon, GA.
Ford Thurston knows vintage tone as well as anybody. He has been actively chasing it for his new guitars for a couple of decades. He has tried just about every expensive P.A.F. clone you can think of. According to him, most of the clones sound pretty good, but for the most part they sound like clones and are missing that vintage “Bloom”. Some are warm enough but lack dynamics, while others have dynamics but are a little harsh. Ford says the Tone Specific Bloombuckers are among the best PAF type of pickup he has ever played.
Ford has A/B’ed the Bloombuckers in a newer Les Paul against a vintage 1959 Les Paul and walked away in disbelief as the Bloombuckers matched the 1959 Les Paul note for note, bend for bend, Bloom for Bloom. He likes them so much he keeps his vintage guitars at home and goes to work with his newer Les Paul loaded with the Tone Specific Bloombuckers.
Ford was so impressed that he recorded a demo of these pickups that you can watch in the video above.
